GoPro Hero 10 Action Camera
The world of action cameras has become bigger and better with time since its inception in 2005. Following the footsteps, American tech company GoPro recently announced their new GoPro Hero 10 Black. A successor to the very successful Hero 9, this action camera is a much-improved version of the former. Moreover, an enhanced overall performance means that the GoPro Hero 10 will keep the market buzzing. While the Hero 9 launched exactly a year ago, the ongoing pandemic didn’t let the users test the camera to its potential.
The GoPro Hero 9 promises to address all the issues we had with its predecessor. Improved low-light performance and smoother user experience bring the best of both worlds into the camera. Powered by GoPro’s flagship GP2 processor, the Hero 10 Black brings an unparalleled user experience to the table.

GoPro Hero 10: Price and Availability
The GoPro Hero 10 will be available in India from November, priced at ₹54,500. It will be available to buy via Amazon, Flipkart, and a few other retail stores. However, GoPro will be selling the older versions as well and won’t be discontinuing any.
As the GoPro Hero 10 enters the market with all the hype surrounding it, let’s see what we can expect from the Hero 9 successor.
GoPro Hero 10 Black: Detailed Specifications
There is no noticeable change in the design of the new GoPro like it was seen last year with the Hero 9. It is identical to the GoPro 9 in terms of design and dimensions. However, the weight of the device cuts down relatively. In addition, the layout of the controls and ports is also very similar to the Hero 9. Identically, the battery compartment, USB Type-C port, and microSD card slot fit under the same water-sealed flap.
A similar 2.27-inch back display and a 1.4-inch front display leave no evident difference. However, keeping the resolution the same, touch response and frame rate have improved in the panels. The lens cover seems to be more challenging than its predecessor. Its water-repelling hydrophobic coating can surprise the users. Opposed to the GoPro Hero 9, the new Hero 10 promises to cancel out issues for which we had criticized the former.
Running the device is a 1,720mAh similar to its predecessor. Similar to the GoPro Hero 9 in many aspects, the new GoPro Hero 10 fares better than the former. In brief, it seems like a polished version of the 2020 version of the GoPro series.
The improved frame rate coupled with a powerful GP2 SoC has changed the game for the new GoPro. While the GoPro Hero 9 focused more on the resolution receiving a lot of criticism for the move, things are exactly the opposite with the Hero 10. The GoPro Hero 10 Black can now record 5.3K footage at up to 60 frames per second, 4K footage at up to 120fps, and 2.7K at 240fps. It makes the Hero 10 Black the smoothest camera experience in a GoPro to date.
Not only this, but the new powerful processor has allowed the camera to click sharper and more detailed stills than ever before. In addition, a 23MP sensor supports the processor in doing the same. With vloggers and action-camera lovers seeking more and more stability, the Hero 10 Black has upped the game with HyperSmooth 4.0. GoPro claims that this upgrade produces the smoothest shake-free video you will ever see from any camera. We will see how that fares when put on test. In like manner, the all-new image signal processor in the GP2 chip helps the device in noise reduction and local tone mapping in pictures and videos. It results in sharper videos and stills, making the GoPro Hero 10 Black the best-ever action camera.
Finally, live-streaming becomes even more convenient and better on the GoPro Hero 10 with its Hypersmooth 4.0 stabilization. The Hero 10 Black also inherits a few features from its predecessors like the TimeWarp 3.0, Hindsight, or Scheduled capture making it a truly versatile action camera.
The improved UI kicks in as soon as you turn on the camera. It seems far smoother on the Hero 10 than the GoPro Hero 9 Black. Toggling between the shooting options seems slightly better. The powerful processor also makes sure that capturing and saving becomes faster than usual.
When it comes to pictures, the new sensor clicks slightly cooler tones, producing sharper stills. The higher frame rates at 4K and 5.3K helps in recording better slow-motion footage. Low-light recording still has a lot to be improved, but it does better than Hero 9 in terms of sharpness and details. A few hiccups in the performance are the battery life and overheating issues the device faces. Despite an improved battery than the Hero 8 or Hero 7, the 1720mAh powerhouse seems less for a higher frame rate and a more powerful processor.
The in-built microphones fare similar to the GoPro Hero 9, producing a noticeable amount of noise when recording videos. We recommend you use an external mic to record videos with decent sound quality. However, one of the main reasons to upgrade to this device can be the slow-motion mentioned above. Higher frame rates coupled with a Hypersmooth 4.0 technology produces some of the best slow-motion videos ever by a GoPro.
Video and Image Quality
There are slight changes in the default video settings on the Hero 10. While it captures close to natural colors, they seem better than the overly saturated videos on the Hero 9 Black. You can now choose from three color settings where the ‘GoPro’ color profile, ‘flat,’ and ‘natural’ modes make for a good shooting experience.
Slower frame rates still have a bit of softness, but the improved processor makes up for it. The camera’s Hypersmooth feature remains the best of them all for many users. While most of them don’t buy the GoPro for pictures, the camera makes sure not to disappoint. The results in good light are pretty crisp, while the SuperPhoto feature can take it to another level. Moreover, an improved ‘frame grabs’ option allows up to 15.8MP stills from a 5.3K video.
Keeping its price tag aside, the GoPro Hero 10 Black is, by all means, an excellent action camera. It does not promise to reinvent the concept of action cameras but makes sure to be a much more user-friendly and intuitive experience. With an improved processor, frame rates, and camera sensor- the GoPro Hero 10 ticks all the boxes. Its snappy interface, minor quality improvements, and better waterproof case give the camera a new perspective.
