Apple Unleashed Event: Everything Apple Unveiled

Last Updated on October 21, 2021 by AmazeMeGadgets

Introduction

Apple, on Oct 21, in its ‘Unleashed event’- did throw a few surprises. The Unleashed event was more exciting as Apple CEO Tim Cook called it a big day through a Tweet. Was it indeed that big for consumers and tech-geeks- let’s have a look!

In its recent Fall event, Apple launched the iPhone 13 series, iPads, and the Apple Watch 7th Gen. Similarly, the users expected something equally big of the much-hyped Unleashed event. We won’t be wrong to say that Apple has delivered once again. It has come up with a few surprises for its consumers. While it came up with the all-new Macbooks- the Macbook Pro 16-inch and Macbook Pro 14-inch, we also saw the arrival of the much-awaited AirPods 3.

AirPods 3

The Unleashed event first saw the announcement of the new and much anticipated AirPods 3. ‘Spatial audio’ is the one thing that got much emphasis during its launch. Before coming to that, let’s know how the AirPods 3 is an upgrade to the AirPods Pro in the truest sense.

The AirPods 3 looks pretty similar to the AirPods Pro with a shorter stem, elongated buds, and a small, compact design. However, one thing that differs both these accessories is the absence of silicone tips. Yes, you read that right- the very successful and much-talked-about silicone ear tips no more exist in the new AirPods. An elongated section of the AirPods’ body replaces it, making it feel more like the traditional AirPods when worn.

Although Apple claims to offer the ‘Spatial Audio’ in the AirPods 3, it to be better than the ‘Active Noise Cancellation’ brought by its predecessor. Further- the AirPods 3 comes with an IPX4 rating similar to the AirPods Pro. Apple has redesigned the capacitive touch sensor to make it bigger and better in the AirPods 3.

The AirPods 3 supports Qi-based wireless charging mats and MagSafe chargers, similar to its predecessor. However, that’s not an upgrade we are talking about here. Apple claims to offer an additional 1.5 hours of battery life with the AirPods 3 compared to the 4.5 hours of the AirPods Pro. With a total of 30 hours of battery life with the case and 6 hours of active listening time- it makes the AirPods 3 a hot prospect in the market.

Price and Availability

The AirPods 3 is available to order for ₹18,500 ($179) from the Official Apple Online Store (Apple.com/in/store) starting Oct 26.

Apple has brought down the price of the AirPods 2 that will be available for ₹12,900. However, the AirPods Pro still costs the same ₹24,900 with the MagSafe charging case.

First Impressions and Opinion

The AirPods 3 is an upgrade to the AirPods Pro with some truly worthy updates. Nevertheless, it would be too early to say if the new features are worth the upgrade or not. There are a few good aspects of the new AirPods 3 that impressed us. The improved battery life is one of them. However, we can’t blame Apple for this as they have toned down the price of the new AirPods compared to the older releases. It would be interesting to get a hands-on experience and test the AirPods 3 thoroughly to have a final verdict.

M1 Pro and M1 Max

Apple M1 Pro & M1 Max

Before getting on to the MacBook Pro, CEO Tim Cook talked about the new and more powerful M1 Pro chipset in the Unleashed event. It is an all-new processor designed especially for Macs. “It has a two-chip architecture that requires more power and cooling, and separate memory pools and a slow interface between the two,” as stated by the company. Apple claims to offer 200GB/s of memory bandwidth, and the new processor supports up to 32GB of unified memory. Not a doubt that it is three times faster than the older M1. 16 GPU cores and a new media engine for video decoding make this one of the best processors a MacBook has ever got. Do you still think the Unleashed event didn’t offer much? Read more.

The M1 Max is better than many other chipsets in the market, if not the best. It claims to offer 4 times faster performance than the M1 chip offering 400GB/s memory bandwidth for up to 64GB of unified memory. That’s not it as Apple claims to serve “industry-leading performance-per-watt” with the M1 Max. In conclusion, Apple also claims that these new processors will offer up to 17-21 hours of battery life to the new MacBooks.

MacBook Pro (14-inch)

Talking about the MacBook Pro, Apple, in its Unleashed event, has made sure to blow users’ minds with the upgrades it has thrown in the new MacBook Pros. The MacBook Pros now come with a redesigned bezel-less design with a newly added notch at the top. Quite a redesign that!

The 14-inch MacBook Pro has a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR Display with a resolution of 3024 × 1984p that hosts 5.9 million pixels (256ppi). With the new dimensions of 12.3 × 8.7 × 0.6 inches, Apple has made sure to offer the best of both worlds. It has ensured an ideal media-consuming experience with a spectacular display in the device. The MacBook Pros are designed with a 100% recycled Aluminum chassis that allows better cooling compared to older MacBooks.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro weighs close to 1.6Kgs which is pretty lightweight considering what it offers performance-wise. The Unleashed event further revealed the standard physical function keys compared to the Touch Bar. Apple sees the return of MagSafe charging in its MacBook Pro line. It supports fast charging up to 96W, claiming to charge up to 50% in 30 mins.

The new MacBook Pro has a refresh rate of 120 Hz with up to 1000 nits of sustained brightness. With a peak brightness of 1600 nits, the claims are a bit too high. It comes with a standard M1 Pro chip that claims to perform way better than the already powerful M1 chip of the older MacBooks. There are a few more things to talk about, and we will take that up when we talk about the 16-inch variant.

MacBook Pro (16-inch)

The 14-inch and 16-inch variants have most of the features similar to each other. However, there is a big difference in terms of performance with the new chip.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro has a 16.2 inches (14.01 × 9.77 × 0.66 inches) Liquid Retina XDR screen with a resolution of 3456 × 2244p and a pixel density of 254ppi. The device weighs close to 2.1Kgs, which is again very light considering the hardware it boasts. The Unleashed event made sure to point out every detail of the devices. It made sure to detail the support of 1 billion colors, Apple‘s Truetone tech, and the ProMotion displays of Apple‘s premium devices. These ensure that the performance is at optimum level and the battery doesn’t drain out too fast by adjusting the refresh rates according to use.

The screen feels big with its bezel-less design. It again offers a peak brightness of 1600 nits and performs exceptionally better in all conditions. Coming to the highlights- the connectivity ports. These have become the talking point since the Unleashed event got over. Apple has upgraded the ports in the MacBooks as they have 3 Thunderbolt 4/USB4 ports, 1 HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, and a headphone jack. What’s impressive is yet to come.

The Unleashed event, with many of its surprises, saw the return of the MagSafe charging technology. Apple has reintroduced the MagSafe charging with the new MagSafe 3 charging port on the left side of the device. As a bonus, you can still charge the laptops via the Thunderbolt ports.

As we didn’t talk about the camera in the 14-inch variant, here’s the turn. Both the variants have the same 1080p FaceTime camera on the top bezel. What’s better, Apple has trimmed down the bezels around the camera and has left only a tiny notch around it. Next, the battery life. Both the 14-inch and 16-inch variants come with really good-performing batteries. While the 14-inch variant has a 70Wh battery, the 16-inch one comes with a 100Wh battery. They offer a total running time of 11 hours and 14 hours, respectively.

Finally, performance-wise the 16-inch variant beats any other device. It comes with a standard M1 Pro chip that already outperforms its predecessors. However, you also get an M1 Max chip variant that has an upgraded performance and handles multitasking better, offering a smoother experience. Apple claims to perform on par with a gaming PC with this chipset.

First Impressions and Opinion

There is undoubtedly a significant upgrade compared to the last MacBook Pro series, but the question remains- are we satisfied? The new laptops are worth the money spent on them but depend on the type of usage. The Unleashed event reflected Apple‘s efforts in dishing out the best for its users. The reintroduction of the MagSafe Charging, extra connectivity ports, better design, and improved processor has proved that. It would be great to see how these perform with the hype around the new, more powerful M1 Pro and M1 Max processors.
